Dawg Cookies

In our home we have at the moment 6 dogs living with us. 4 Leonbergers, 1 Australian Shepherd, and 1 Bichon Havanais. Jenny, our Aussie, is 3 years old today!
For Jenny´s birthday I decided to finally bake the dog cookies I had bought at the local pet store.
I had actually bought this mix because I wanted the doggy bone cookie cutter that came with the mix. As you´ll recall I´ve made cookies before but they always looked like....well....doggy doo....

The dogs loved the doggy doo looking cookies too but they didn´t look as cute as the doggy bone cookies..

When I saw how nicely these turned out I decided while I was at it, I might as well try and make my own doggy cookie mix and see how they would turn out. So I checked on the box to see what ingredients Ms. Betty Miller had used for her cookies and I had almost exactly the same things. Here is what I did:

I mixed the following:

about 200 grams whole grain flour (grov bakst mel)
2tsp garlic powder (hvitløkspulver)
1tsp sage (salvie)
1tsp Marjoram (Meirami)
1tsp Oregano
1.5dl beef bullion (with a little extra for brushing the cookies with before you bake them)
25 grams linseed (linfrø)
25 grams oatbran (havrekli)
50 grams oats (havregryn)
approximately .50 dl olive oil
I mixed this together and used a little regular flour (hvetemel) to get a dough I could roll out and then I used my nifty doggy bone cookie cutter...

Both cookies were liked by my gang...here you see the birthday girl getting to try first...check out that smile on her face as she gets a treat before the Leo girls....

We took the whole gang for a walk in the field but before we left we let the dogs who weren´t inside have a try...the girls sat patiently in line hoping to get another tasty cookie...

Even big strong sea Captains thought they were good...at least when the camera was pointed at them...thanks honey ;-)
Will definitely be tweaking and trying to perfect my doggy cookie recipe in the future and I´m sure the gang here will be willing taste testers!

Have you ever made a dog cookie for your fur baby (babies)? If you have a great tried and true recipe for the special doggy in your life, leave the recipe in my comment box and I´ll give it a try and let you know what the gang here thinks!

Until next time my friends.....

They look good enough for us to eat! Did you try one yourself?

I don't have any fur babies, but seeing yours makes me wish that I did. We are military and constantly on the move. We will probably get at least one fur baby when we settle down in a few years. Seeing your smiling puppy makes me wish I could do it a bit sooner. :)

Yum-O! I have never made them, but my sweet Nana used to make them for our gang each Christmas :)

I have been on the look-out for a cat treat recipe forever! If you find one-let me know :)
All your pups are gorgeous! Happy Birthday to your sweet girl!

I think they look great, and tasty. New outlet? Dog cookies by mail?

Etsy shop?

And hey, if you ever find a cat treat recipe, let me know also.

Mmm... those cookies look delicious!

I have enough trouble cooking for the kids, let alone the dog!
