Blue Cheese and Wood Stove Bread

So I have this craving lately…for blue cheese…and this is something new for me. I’ve had blue cheese on lasagna before and I use it in salads, like the one below-

January2010 001-2

An easy peasy little creation of spinach leaves- combined with a little crispier salad type (I used Hjertesalat as it’s called here in Norway). Hard cooked egg, bacon with garlic pepper on it, red onion, pecan nuts (you can also use walnuts which I thought I had but didn’t..so I used my precious few pecans from the states..) and blue cheese..topped with a lovely olive oil and vinegar dressing again with garlic pepper spice.

Last night I was at a meeting for work and they served a cheese tray with whole grain rolls and crackers..I used blue cheese as a spread on one side of a whole grain roll with some bell pepper and YUM…sooo good…so now I’ve got this blue cheese dilla..I want more…for breakfast this morning I had a piece of my homemade bread that I made yesterday in my wood stove oven (one side you put wood in and the other side you bake in). The bread again is my own composition of whole grains and nuts, some carrots, oil, and honey..VERY good- I’d give you a recipe but I seriously just tossed a little of this and a little of that and got this..

So I had a piece of this bread and some of the last bit of blue cheese I had in my fridge- it’s the spreadable kind of blue cheese- I assume there are different types..I’m not really a cheese expert- but this was spreadable like a cream cheese but was blue cheese..so good!

I’m off now until next Monday and planning other baking projects in my oven. I’m thinking pizza in the wood stove would be devine..of course I’ll take photos if I’m successful.

My nose is plugging up and the temps are dropping- we’ve been between –20C to –28C(-4 to –18F) various places around here today..my darling husband is leaving for Rio next Monday and I’ll not have anyone who can keep a fire going while we are at work and school throughout the day…so colder times are coming and I’m not looking forward to it. I’ll turn on my ovens on the wall and we’ll have heat of course but been trying to save money on electricity by using the fireplace to heat..but hey- you do what you have to do right?

I was out practicing with my cross country skiis yesterday across the field here..and I was really proud- I didn’t fall. Will try to practice some more this weekend. Stig is going to take the kids slalom skiing at Hafjell near Lillehammer this weekend as a last hipp hurra before he leaves..

I’d like to thank everyone who has stopped by my blog and a special thanks to those who have chosen to follow my blog, I’m honored you think I’m worth following! I see lots of visitors from around the world on my little counter thing but not everyone leaves comments. Would love it if you’d leave a word or two and tell me what you liked, what you didn’t like, what you’d like to see here..or just how you’re doing in your part of the world- I always visit the blogs of people who leave comments- it’s a great way to find new blogs in the giant world of blogs!

Until next time my friends…

I can't even imagine that kind of temperature for any length of time. I just can't. It's bad enough here at 25F.

But the bread looks sooo delish

Amy, I wish I can trade places so that I can experience that temp. I love to go cross-country skiing too. Can you adopt me for a week or so? Hahaha!
