Wanna See Something Gross??

gallstones

Isn’t that nasty???? It’s a gall bladder with gallstones…yep, my ultrasound today showed that I have several gallstones (not big ones according to the vet….I mean, doctor….sorry dogs on my brain these days…hahahaha)

gallstones-chol-

I’ve been reading up on these and the one page I found, gallbladderattack.com had a list of foods to avoid and foods which are good for gallstones, things to be careful with and a lot more information about gall stones. The list of foods to avoid was like the list of everything I love…but it also said that everyone is individual and you need to listen to your body to find out what you personally need to avoid.

One of the main foods that is a big no no is eggs…EGGS!! I love eggs, I use eggs in cooking, on bread, in salads, in baking…you name it…but apparently 95% of gallstone patients had reactions to eggs. So whether it’s how many eggs you eat or what that causes the reaction I’m not sure, but I had quiche last night with lots of eggs in it and I’ve been fine..so I’m going to tread carefully….feel my way through this and use caution.

The old mantra for dieters about “everything within reason” has finally become something I have to live by and not just say. I’ve always joked in a half hearted way that one never takes their health seriously until something serious happens…and here it is….finally something semi serious which causes ONE WHOPPER of a pain when they are passing, and I finally have to take it serious or get use to the pain….and no thank you I don’t want to deal with that pain!

I need to get my weight down and get from this..

To this….

13203

You might not notice it but there is almost 30kg difference between these two photos…the top one is me now, the bottom one is me five years ago at the final of Scandinavia’s Biggest Loser TV Program…I need to get that weight off again…and I’m really pleased to say one of the positive effects of walking the many doggies so much lately has been that I’ve gone down around 6lbs or 3kg the last couple weeks. So I’m pleased…and I’ve been eating what I want but smaller portions and trying to be very careful with fatty foods…

Now that I’m “diagnosed” I’m going to probably be more careful..and I have suddenly become nervous about the holidays coming up…how do I make it through the holidays and still have a good time without having gallstone pain attacks or risk getting them? I’d love any advice from people who have or know of someone who has had gallstones, how you lived with these, what you cut out of your diet…etc…any and all advice is welcome and appreciated!!

Knock on wood I’ve not had any pain for almost 3.5 weeks now..so that is great. I feel a slight tenderness on my right side, but no undescribable pain like I had…THANK GOD…

In the spirit of positive attitudes I shall deal with this in the best way I can with the most positive attitude I can!

Until next time my friends…

I am so sorry about the gallstones. I had a girlfriend who eventually had to have the surgery.

I have never had an issue with gallstones, but another issue made me cut out all dairy and gluten from our diet. I also had to radically reduce our egg intake. I saw all three of those mentioned on the website you visited.

At first I thought I would die (I lived for cheese!) without my favorites, but the opposite is true. My entire family (we are all doing the same diet) is so much healthier. We eat far more natural foods now and my children eat tons of fruit and veg.

One great thing to use when replacing eggs in cooking is something called Egg Replacer by Ener-G. It works great and you will never miss the egg or the extra calories they bring to your baked goods.

If you decide to remove more things from you diet, send me an email.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I know just how hard it can be.

i had them and didn't even know it until one attack left me breathless and i had to have emergency surgery to remove one that was causing serious problems. the good news is the surgery was easy and i was back to work in a short turnaround.

so, yes - take it easy on yourself - watch the diet - but know it is not all related to weight.

OMG, I am so sorry! (but that pic is gross! LOL)
I hate that you are going through this, especially when the capt is not home!! But the good news is no pain for 3 weeks...that is awesome!

I pray you do not have to have surgery and that they go away on their own...
but regardless of which picture you are, I think they are both BEAUTIFUL !

Well, you know that I had the surgery in early October. Are you not having the gall bladder removed?

I began having pain in January and had 7 of those 'attacks' until we finally found out it was gall bladder. It's an awful pain, isn't it? (I prayed during them for God to help me).

Do not eat anything with fat. This includes egg yolks! No pizza. Nothing greasy. No red meat. And take care of yourself. Avoidance of pain will certainly make you eat right, let me tell you!

Good for you my friend - be positive, change your diet, eat fewer eggs, and you can survive the holiday season by serving yourself smaller portions and walking every day...

So sorry to hear about the gallstones!! That photo is kinda gross.

I too need to desperately lose weight for my self and my health. I've been thinking about setting up a blog about it to keep me honest. Put out there what i eat and how i work out. Even if i'm the only one who sees it, just knowing my uber fat photos are out there will hopefully get me moving.

BTW, love how your hair looks now!
