Good morning Sunshine(s), how are you today? :-)) Thanks for all the comments yesterday, nice to know I’m not the only black sheep out there. Knowing there are many of us gives the whole concept a little more piff then if it was just me..maybe I’d go so far as to say I’m a little proud of being “different” then the rest of my family. With that said, many times I think life would certainly be easier if I understood my family better and they understood me better…but hey- the easy path in life is boring right?
So as I mentioned yesterday Stig and I had some time alone at IKEA in Oslo. For those of you who have never been to IKEA I recommend a trip. Although you must shop carefully because it’s not top quality stuff, you can get a lot of things you use often, very cheap. So when glasses break or you lose spoons or what have you, you can go back and buy some really cheap and the style is usually clean and not so cheapy in appearance..hahahaha…Take the photo below- new glasses and coffee cups we bought at IKEA. Anyone who has been to my house knows that I have used old jam jars and spagetti glass jars as drinking glasses. I got that idea from various restaraunts in America I’ve been too and I like it- rustic, using what you have and BIG so you don’t have to fill up little tiny glasses a million times if you’re really thirsty. However, every once in awhile I get a guest who makes a comment about our drinking from jam jars and such and I think, hmmm…maybe it’s time to find bigger glasses which truly are for drinking. Norway has come a long way in the 14 years I’ve been here, when I first got here there was just little juice glasses but now you can buy glasses that are bigger and so we purchased the following at IKEA yesterday and I’m not proud to announce to anyone planning on visiting me, you’ll get REAL glasses to drink out of from now on!
I’ve also been playing with the idea of pulling my sewing machine out that Santa Claus brought me last year. I’ve used it…once, so now I’m thinking it’s time to bring it out, dust it off, and have a go at it again…if I can just get the hang of it think of all the cool stuff I could make!! While in Sweden this past week I bought this fleece material to make a cozy blanket out of..I don’t really need to sew anything on it, but the helpful clerk thought I might want an edge to my blanket, so I got stuff to sew around the edge.
And then with Christmas coming up I found some great material I thought would make great Christmas curtains in my kitchen. Now, again, I could probably find Christmas curtains cheaper then I what I paid to buy this unfinished material but I guess by doing it this way I’m also paying for the “fun” of making something myself.
I’ll appreciate anyone who wants to wish me luck on this venture..and IF I actually can do this I’ll of course post the results!
Now again, anyone who has been to my house knows that there is no style here…other then “Ala Messy” and as I was walking through IKEA yesterday I was saying to Stig, I wish I had a style. Problem is I love so many things and nothing really matches and I really don’t know how to make that nothing-matches- style work for me. Some people put together a nothing-matches look and it’s cool but what I have right now isn’t really cool, it’s just…well….looks like nothing really matches…and it doesn’t. About 90% of my furniture I’d like to change out eventually and I’d love to make my log cabin home feel cozy and invite to cuddling down under a newly sewn fleece blanket with a cup of cocoa in front of a roaring fire. Big yummy sofas to fall into, a nice blend of antiques and new stuff and someday I’d like to have a romantic bedroom, not just a place I sleep…something like this would be nice maybe minus the all the flowers and flower prints..but with the quilt as a headboard and the romantic pole bed and curtains on that…
So yeah, I have a lot of ideas swirling in my head but I have no idea how to pull it all together..I need an interior decorator to show me how to put together my nothing-matches- style!!!! With that said my dear readers, I can assure you that you will NEVER get interior tips from me, I might toss out something every now and then (like curtain material) or the like that makes you creative souls go, “oooo ahhhhh” but that’s it. There will be no magazine quality interior photos of my home here, the dust bunnies (or horses as I call them because of their size) don’t photograph well!!
I’m off folks to give the doggies a little extra TLC, I feel like they’ve been taking a back burner to all our company of late and I need to give them some extra lovin’….
Have a great day everyone, be the best that you can be today and remember to smile…
Until next time my friends…
