Today was the 1st of May- International Worker’s Day. I am assuming this is very similar to our Labour Day in America which is in September but apparently the rest of the world celebrates this holiday the first of May every year. Stig said Americans just like to be different and maybe he is right. With that said, the kids had off from school today so we had a very relaxing day. The sun shined and the skies were blue. I look around my house and think it wasn’t long ago everything was white and now it’s green and getting greener.
Norwegians have this saying, “Slapper av i solveggen” which loosely translated means “relaxing against the sun wall” Norwegians adore the sun and when it comes out they either bounce into varied activity or they come to a dead stop and just sit and soak up the sun…today…we sat..and soaked up the sun- Sarah got the last book in the Twilight series yesterday (in English) and has been reading it nonstop since she got it. She is on page 527 now only 24 hours after she got the book!!
I’ve also been doing some sensible things today like laundry and I took down all my red curtains from the Christmas holidays which looked quite nice hung up in the winter and exchanged them for some white curtains which let more light in and make everything feel very airy and summer like. Coupled with my new table cloth and placemats I think it feels very fresh!!
My ever restless son met a friend at his school and tried out his new skateboard he got for his birthday. He had to bring along BOTH his new shoes he got yesterday when we went shopping- one to wear and the other to wear when he was skating…apparently they were the appropriate skating shoes and the others were just cool!! Ugh!! He is trying so hard to be so tough right now and we are butting heads a lot right now….but he’s a good kid and I just keep telling myself that each time we butt heads!!! :-))
Stuart Little agreed with we girls- the best thing to do on such a sunny day was just to lie around and soak up the rays…
Tomorrow the girls and I are planning on meeting a friend at an antique and collector’s show being held at the Viking Ship in Hamar. (If you followed the 1994 winter olympics you’ll know what viking ship I’m talking about) Thomas plans to meet some buddies at the skate park downtown Hamar while we girls look at antiques- better for him and better for us!!
Have a great night everyone…
