I believe this is the last photo taken of me with my mom and so of course it’s very special to me.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “ All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother” and while my mother is thankfully not an angel yet I do owe her for a big part of who I am and who I hope to someday be. My mother went back to college when she was in her 30’s and showed me that it’s never to late to get a degree. This inspires me when I am closing in on 40 and have that as a goal someday (to get my degree- in something!!)
My mother has had all kinds of friends through the years and never judged anyone on race, sexual interest, or religion…she liked people for who they were no matter what that was! I feel the same and think it’s easy to become friends with all types of people which makes life much easier I think!
My mother is a strong person, her strong will which has carried her so far in this sickness is the greatest testament to who she is. She has met challenges head on and usually come out on top, showing me that anything is possible if you try hard enough and are determined.
My mother has a loving heart and gave a lot of her time to helping children in lower income schools learn to read. She had so much joy in sharing her knowledge and it always has surprised me that she never became a teacher because I think she would have been great at it. She loves to share what she knows with anyone around her and she speaks so passionately about things that mean something to her so it’s always exciting to listen to her.
I can talk to my mom about anything. At least I use to be able to. I don’t want to bother her with things while she is as ill as she is, but before if I needed someone to talk to her she was the person I wanted…she listened, she gave advice- even if it wasn’t the advice I was hoping for, she was honest and loving no matter what I wanted to talk about. I miss talking with her like that but am grateful I can at least still speak with her in some way.
I’ve been blessed to have her as my mom. I think I have been able to cope with the trials and tribulations of living in a foreign country because of the strength I learned to have through watching my mom handle things in life. I’m grateful for that, otherwise this experience could have been a lot different.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you mothers out there. I hope and believe you have all meant something incredibly special to the children in your lives and that they have many wonderful things to say about you as well.
Until next time….

what a precious post. Your mom is obviously very loved and very lucky to have a daughter like you who can recognize what a gift our mothers are to us!!
Happy Mother´s day to you, too!!!
What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful mom! You are so fortunate to have such a special relationship with her; and, I know she feels as strongly about you as you do her. And, I'll be your dad will love this, as well.
